ELECTION, APPOINTED OFFICERS, & DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS

 

By the authority vested in me as Commander of the Department of California and Pacific, by the Department Bylaws, the National Constitution and Regulations, and National Policies, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1: Having been duly elected Department Commander by the 119th Annual Department Encampment in regular session as San Luis Obispo, California, it is with sincere appreciation for the continued support and confidence shown to me that I assume command of the Department of California and Pacific for the 2005-2006 term. This Department has a bright future. Rest assured that I, along with my officers, will strive to bring honor to the memory of our Union ancestors through the good works of our Order during the coming year.

I hereby establish my residence in the City of Gilroy, County of Santa Clara, State of California as the Department Headquarters. Correspondence on any matters are most welcomed and may be sent to my home address, 9110 Avezan Way, Gilroy, California 95020-7545, or to my e-mail address, tadcamp@earthlink.net. Camp reports and dues shall be sent to the Department Secretary-Treasurer at 6512 Star Hawk Court, Elk Grove, CA 95758-6305.

Section 2: Department Brothers who were duly elected and installed by Commander-in-Chief Stephen A. Michaels at the 119th Annual Department Encampment on March 12, 2005 are as follows:

  • Commander - Bro. Tad D. Campbell, PCC
  • Sr. Vice-Commander - Bro. Jerry R. Sayre
  • Jr. Vice-Commander - Bro. Gary E. Parrott
  • Council - Bro. Alan E. Peterson, PDC (with a term expiring in 2006)
  • Council - Bro. Glen L. Roosevelt (with a term expiring in 2007)

Section 3: His two-year term not being expired, Bro. D. Brad Schall, PDC, remains on the Department Council and was re-elected as Council Chairman.

Section 4: Bro. Daniel R. Earl resigned as Department Secretary-Treasurer upon the close of the 119th Annual Department Encampment. In accordance with the Department Bylaws and the National Constitution and Regulations, the Department Council subsequently elected Bro. J. Thomas Smith to fill those vacancies until the next regular Department Encampment.

Section 5: Department Brothers who were elected as Delegates at the 119th Annual Department Encampment on March 12, 2005, or who are ex officio Delegates, to the 124th Annual National Encampment in August 2005, are as follows:

DEPARTMENT ORDER No. 4
Series 2005-2006

PASSING OF BROTHER AL HODGES

 

By the authority vested in me as Commander of the Department of California and Pacific, by the Department Bylaws, the National Constitution and Regulations, and National Policies, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1: On August 20, 2005, Brother Al Hodges of the Sgt. William Pittenger Camp 21 passed away in San Diego, California after a brief illness. He was 61 years old. Brother Hodges joined the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War on November 27, 2001 and was among the most active members of Camp 21. He also served as a Corporal in Company G, 5th California Infantry, Sons of Veterans Reserve (SVR). Brother Hodges was a truly dedicate member of our Order and did all that he could to promote its objects. His passing will leave a void in our Department that will be difficult to fill.

Section 2: The Department and all Camp Charters are to be draped in black for a period of thirty (30) days.

Section 3: All Department Brothers are respectfully directed to attach a black mourning ribbon to their membership badge (pursuant to C&R, Article III, Sec. 9) for a period of thirty (30) days.

Section 4: The Department of California and Pacific extends its sincere condolences to the family of Brother Hodges and to the Brothers of his Camp.

DEPARTMENT ORDER No. 5
Series 2005-2006

HURRICANE KATRINA

 

By the authority vested in me as Commander of the Department of California and Pacific, by the Department Bylaws, the National Constitution and Regulations, and National Policies, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1: The recent disaster caused by Hurricane Katrina has resulted in catastrophic property damage and loss of life along the Gulf Coast of the United States, especially in the states of Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. Some experts are calling this the greatest natural disaster to befall the United States since the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906.

Section 2: The Department of California and Pacific deeply mourns this tragedy and the suffering being endured by our fellow Americans during this difficult time.

Section 3: In the spirit of Charity, the Department shall donate $500.00 (five hundred dollars) from the Department's reserve funds to the American Red Cross to assist in disaster relief.

Section 4: Camps and individual Brothers are strongly encouraged to assist in disaster relief. Those wishing to make donations to the American Red Cross may do so by calling 1-800-HELP-NOW (1-800-435-7669), by visiting their website at www.redcross.org, or by sending monetary contributions to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013.
