The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) is a patriotic and educational organization, similar to the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). It was founded on November 12, 1881 and incorporated by Act of Congress August 20, 1954. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is the legal heir to and representative of the GAR.

Sgt. William Pittenger Camp No. 21 of the SUVCW was formed on August 26, 1995 and was named for Sgt. William Pittenger (1840-1904) and in memory of all non-commisioned Union officers.

  • AREA: The Camp “Old San Diego” County in California and the state of Hawaii.
  • MEETINGS: Held at 9:30 a.m. on the second Saturday of each even numbered month at VFW Hall, 7785 Othello Avenue, San Diego, CA 92111. Please contact the Camp Commander for directions or details of other events.
  • NEWSLETTER: The General (named for the engine used by Pittenger during the “Great Locomotive Chase”).
  • MEMORIAL DAY PARTICIPATION: To be announced.
  • DUES: Annual dues are $50.00, with a $10.00 application fee paid the first year.
