Pvt. Henry Clay Veatch

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) is a patriotic and educational organization, similar to the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). It was founded on November 12, 1881 and incorporated by Act of Congress August 20, 1954. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is the legal heir to and representative of the GAR.

Henry C. Veatch Camp No. 30 of the SUVCW was established on April 21, 2015 and was named for Private Henry Clay Veatch (1847-1939), who served in Company C, 5th Indiana Infantry and was the last surviving Civil War veteran in Butte County. Veatch was a member of Oroville’s Sherman Post No. 96, GAR.

The Camp is associated with the Sarah Emma Edmonds Auxiliary No. 32, Auxiliary to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (ASUVCW).

  • AREA: The Camp serves the northern California counties of Butte, Sutter and Yolo, and north to the California-Oregon border.
  • MEETINGS: Franklin Elementary School. Dates and times vary.

  • MEMORIAL DAY PARTICIPATION: To be announced.
  • DUES: Annual dues are $35, plus a one-time initiation fee of $5.00.
