Preserving the memory of the Grand Army of the Republic and our ancestors who fought to preserve the Union 1861 – 1865

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) is a patriotic and educational organization, similar to the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). It was founded on November 12, 1881 and incorporated by Act of Congress August 20, 1954. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is the legal heir to and representative of the GAR.

Gen. Alfred Pleasonton Camp No. 24 of the SUVCW was formed on August 30, 1999 and was named for Maj. Gen. Alfred Pleasonton (1824-1897).

  • AREA: The Camp serves the east San Francisco Bay Area and shares San Francisco with Phil Sheridan Camp No. 4.
  • MEETINGS: The Camp meets quarterly, in March, June, September, and November, at various locations. Please contact the Camp Commander for details.
  • NEWSLETTER: The Guidon is published quarterly.
  • MEMORIAL DAY PARTICIPATION: San Francisco (Presidio) and Redwood City (Union Cemetery).
  • DUES: Annual dues are $30.00, with a $10.00 initiation fee paid the first year.
