Robert J. Mayer, PCC

Department Junior Vice Commander

Robert J. Mayer was born on August 20, 1993 in Angels Camp, California. He graduated from Freedom High School in 2012. During his time at Freedom High, Robert was actively involved in several organizations, including Student Government, Key Club, National Honor Society, and the California Scholarship Federation.

While still in high school, Robert enrolled at Los Medanos College, where he earned an associate’s degree in history. Since completing his studies at Los Medanos, he has continued his education pursuing further coursework in history and remains engaged in his academic journey.

Robert has held various positions throughout his career, including as a seasonal employee for California State Parks, a Corrections Officer with the Kentucky Department of Corrections, and over ten years working in the security field, progressing from security guard to site manager.

In addition to his professional roles, Robert has dedicated the past six years to volunteering with the Sea Cadets. He has served as the Executive Officer of the Grey Ghost Division based in Alameda, California.

Robert joined the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War as an Associate of Gen. Alfred Pleasonton Camp No. 24. With support from Brothers Brad Schall and Don Wilt, he was able to trace his ancestry to relatives who served in cavalry and infantry units, as well as those who fought on the opposing side during the Civil War. At his first meeting, Robert was elected to the Camp Council, and over the years he also served the Camp as Junior Vice Commander, Senior Vice Commander, and Commander.

Robert later became involved with the Department of California and Pacific. He has served as a Department Councilman and was elected Department Junior Vice Commander in 2025 and 2026. Additionally, he is an active member of the Sons of Veterans Reserve (SVR) and formed Battery H, 3rd United States Artillery, of which he is the unit commander. He also holds the position of Chief of Staff for the SVR’s 6th Military District.
