Dr. Wayne L. Eder, PCC

Department Commander

Dr. Wayne L. Eder, PCC has been an avid Civil War reenactor and living historian for over 15 Years. He currently serves as the Commanding Major of the 6th Military District, Sons of Veterans Reserve (SVR) and as Commander of Battery A, 3rd United States Artillery, SVR. He holds a graduate certificate in American Civil War History from American Military University and has a Doctorate in Business Administration. Dr. Eder graduated from the SUVCW’s Memorial University in 2025. He serves as Chaplain of Sen. Edward Dickinson Baker Camp No. 31 in Henderson, Nevada. He is also a dual member of Sgt. William Pittenger Camp No. 21 in San Diego County, California and Gen. William Passmore Carlin Camp No. 25 in Reno, Nevada, his original camp where he served as Chaplain. Currently, Dr. Eder serves on the National SUVCW Military Affairs Committee, which oversees the SVR. Dr. Eder has served at the Department level as Councilman, Senior Vice Commander, and was unanimously elected Department Commander in 2026.

Dr. Eder has also served as the Union Commander (Major) for the Nevada reenacting group Department of the Pacific, Federal Battalion. He portrays a first-person impression of Major General John G. Foster. Battery A, 3rd United States Artillery, received the National SVR Unit Citation for 2013, while Doctor Eder received the National SVR Commander’s Meritorious Service Medal-Silver Star for his service as Commander of the Battery for 2012 and 2013. A retired Fire Chief, he currently serves as an Assistant Fire Chief for the Butte Valley and Gazelle Fire Protection Districts in California; as a Career Technical Education (CTE) Public Safety Teacher for Hemet Unified School District/Hemet High School; and as an Adjunct Fire Instructor for the College of the Siskiyous in Weed, California.

Dr. Eder resides in Hemet, California with his wife Suzette and son Wayne II who is a Junior Member of the SUVCW/SVR. He is a Subject Matter Expert in History and Social Studies through the Arizona Department of Education and has taught college, high school and middle school United States History and Social Studies. A published author on fire service and historical subjects, he serves as a guest speaker on 19th century United States military operations; particularly on coastal defense, field artillery, the Civil War in the far west (Nevada and California), and dragoon/cavalry tactics.
